Women and Sports: because some of us are more worthy than you are

I'm writing this post, mostly because I feel that there are too many men today, giving themselves far more credit than they are due. Someone needs to restore the balance.

At first glance, I might appear like your typical "girly girl". Yes, I wear dresses and heels. I like makeup too and God forbid, sometimes I even curl my hair and paint my nails. I like to look presentable and I feel like everybody should. So if you saw me walking down the street today and somebody asked you to point out the athlete, I'm guessing I'm probably one of the last people you would point out. So let me just start by saying, you'd be wrong!

I am an athlete. I've been an athlete for as long as I can remember. I've played soccer competitively for over a decade, I ran track ... I even played all four years of soccer in college (ask the NCAA) and I still have the X Rays and MRI s from countless injuries to prove it. I have dedicated too much of my time, freedom and sanity to ever have that title taken away from me, just because I'm not a guy. I put in the time and the work ... so that's what it is.

With that said, you know what irritates me? When I hear guys complain about women that have an opinion on anything sports related. I hate when guys feel like the fact that they are guys, suddenly makes them more qualified to speak. A penis does not make you an athlete. Now personally, I never really comment on sports or games anyway ... but if one day I should decide to, I don't want to hear a peep out of anyone that isn't an athlete himself.

I personally do not care if you played peewee football as a child. I don't care if you ball with your boys on the weekend or how many hours you've dedicated to Madden or 2K13. Before you try to silence a woman, please please check yourself and make sure that you are more competitively qualified than she is. Please make sure that she hasn't accomplished more in her athletic life than you have. If you've never played a sport in your life, if you have no trophies or medals or anything to show for it and if your stats aren't available for viewing online ... then I'm sorry, but she might just be more worthy than you.
