Lush Run

I had to go back to Brandy Melville today to return something that was damaged. While I was there I made a few new purchases, but since I was in the area, I also stopped by Lush to pick up a few products that I've been wanting to try. Now, I really can't complain too much about my skin, because I have fairly good skin. I rarely break out and I don't generally have to baby it too much. One thing I have noticed though, is that I get super oily very quickly during the day and I also have some very sensitive areas. I looked online at some Lush products and decided on trying both the Cosmetic Warrior fresh face mask and Dark Angels facial cleanser. I've tried several of the other Lush products before and I did like them, but I chose those based on other reviews and not necessarily on what I needed for my skin. Both of these products are meant to tackle oily and irritable skin. The main ingredients in the mask are egg whites, honey, garlic and tea tree oil. In the cleanser, the main ingredients are charcoal and black sugar.

The Alchemist: final thoughts

An addition to my first post on the book here.

I won't say too much, as I don't want to give anything away for people that are interested in reading it. When I first started reading the book, I wasn't quite sure what to think or expect. It came highly recommended, so I had high hopes ... I just wasn't quite sure what I was hoping for. In either case, I LOVED it. I honestly had no idea what an alchemist or alchemy was. The closest I'd come to knowing it, is probably through the Harry Potter series. It sounds like an odd comparison, because the books aren't at all alike really .. but some of the philosophical ideas they spoke about, I only understood because of Harry Potter. Anyway, it was okay that I didn't know what Alchemy was, because I got to learn about it as the main character also learned about it. So it was almost like, whenever he had a revelation, I had a revelation ... and I thought that was pretty cool.

To sum it up, the book is all about recognizing one's path in life (or one's Personal Legend) and seeking it. It makes you want to take chances and you remember that everything is connected.

These are some of my favorite quotes from the story:

"And, when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it."

"When we love, we always strive to become better than we are. When we strive to become better than we are, everything around us becomes better too."

"Tell your heart that the fear of suffering is worse than the suffering itself."

"At a certain point in our lives, we lose control of what's happening to us, and our lives become controlled by fate. That's the world's greatest lie."

I loved the message of this story and best of all, I actually believe the message. I believe we are totally in control of how our lives play out ... as long as we know when to take control. So, if you've been thinking about reading this book and simply haven't gotten around to it .. do it. It's well worth your time.

Clocking Out

Jeans: H&M, Flats: Steve Madden, Laptop Case: Aldo

I just finished reading The Alchemist. It took a bit longer for me to get through than I originally thought it would, mostly because it can be difficult to find time to read during the working week. I feel like I'm always being interrupted by someone or something else. In either case, I really enjoyed it and can't wait to talk a bit more about it in a separate post. After finishing up work though and clocking out for the day, I did take a little bit of a breather and a blogging break. I also stepped out and experienced the most divine ham and cheese croissant. Seriously, it might not sound like anything special, but it was amazing. I'm actually still thinking about it as I type this. Anyways, I hope everyone has been enjoying their week so far. Two days until Friday!

The Alchemist

"We look around at all those who have failed to get what they want and feel that we do not deserve to get what we want either. We forget about all the obstacles we overcame, all the suffering we endured, all the things we had to give up in order to get this far."

I've recently started reading The Alchemist and it's one of those books that you can pretty much tell will be brilliant, after the first few pages. I've heard so much about this book and how inspiring and life changing it is, but I suppose I was just waiting to get around to it in my own time. My sister has actually been recommending that I read it for so long now. Her recommendations I should add, are pretty much always spot on. I'm really excited for this read and hopefully, I will gain as much from it as its millions of other readers. I will most definitely be doing a follow up post once I complete it. I'm hoping to get through it pretty quickly, as I have another book that I've recently purchased and am dying to start.

Window Shopping + Actual Shopping

So my day started off a little bit rough. I woke up early for work, but mostly, I woke up in anticipation of purchasing OVO Fest tickets. If you're unfamiliar with OVO Fest, it's an annual music festival in Toronto featuring Drake and whoever he feels like bringing with him. It's usually pretty legit. I know that Frank Ocean will be there this year, but most of the acts are still unnamed. Anyway, tickets went on sale at 10AM and I was on the computer at 9AM just to be ready. Still didn't get any tickets! They literally sold out in like seconds. I was so irritated. Instead I had to deal with ridiculous offers from ticket scalpers trying to sell me seats at triple the price. I WAS NOT BOUT THAT LIFE! Thankfully, a friend of a friend came through for me and we were able to purchase tickets off of her for the regular price. After work, I took a stroll down Queen West and to the Eaton Centre to do a little browsing. I saw a Marc Jacobs purse that I really loved .. but in the end, I settled for a new book to read and just a pullover from Brandy Melville. It looks light brown in the photo, but it's actually more of a dusty rose/leaning towards brown. It's cute.

Toronto: Windy Days

Jacket: H&M, Top: Suzy Shier, Jeans: Necessary Clothing, Flats: Spring, Bag: Aldo, Bracelet: Topshop

It's been kind of rainy/windy in Toronto these past couple of days, which makes it really difficult to dress for because you never know what you're in for with this bipolar weather. One second you're hot, the next you're chilly .. it's ridiculous. Anyway, I went to work today but thankfully it was one of my shorter days. I was off by early afternoon and it gave me enough time to go to one of my favorite spots for cupcakes. Seriously, thank God for my sister's past wedding shower (or else I would have never discovered this place). It's so quaint and never busy. It's just the perfect chill spot. I also received an email earlier today from (what was) my number one choice for law schools. I was placed on their waiting list and asked if I still wished to be considered for admission. Even though I've accepted the offer in California, it would still be nice to know that I eventually got into my top choice ... so I said yes. I suppose only time will tell ...

John Lennon vs. Jenn Lennon

It's Victoria Day in Canada so pretty much everyone is off work for the holiday. I was getting ready for both a friend's birthday BBQ as well as my mother's. I was really in the mood to wear my New York City Girl tank, because it has huge holes in the arm and it's just breezy and comfy and BBQ perfect! My sister thought it would be a good idea for me to recreate an old John Lennon look. It really wasn't that hard ... all I needed was a New York top and some standard John Lennon shades ... VOILA

TGI ... Weekend

It's the long weekend here in Canada ... and honestly, Thank GOD. This morning is the first morning I've slept in for a while (even if it was only until 8am) .. but it was amazing. I'm not sure what my plans are for the day, but I just want to relax .. and I do still have to get my mother a birthday gift. My mother and sister are both really slick, having birthdays the week after Mother's Day every year.

.I also got my hair done last night .. I got 22 inch extensions/weave/whatever you want to call it and I love it. I'll probably put photos up eventually. Just know for now, that I look like a mermaid! I hope everyone enjoys their weekend, even if it's not a long one for you! If you're going out to party and drink with friends, be safe .. don't drink and drive.

I'm a Liar ... Sue Me

I said I wasn't going to shop, but I've wanted this perfume for so long now and I never did buy it. Anyways, I saw it yesterday when I went out to get my sister a birthday gift. I didn't buy it right then because I was still trying to keep my promise to myself .. but then I figured, so what? It's not like a random purchase. I want it, I'm going to continue to want it until I get it ... so I went back today and got it. But I swear, now I'm really done shopping for myself.

Also, today an elderly man that always comes into my work brought me these. He's in a scooter so he always needs help opening the front door. Honestly, I open the door all the time for the residents that actually live at the nursing home anyways, so it's no big deal that I have to open it for him when he comes. He apparently thought it was and he said he brought these to say thank you. It was actually the sweetest thing. I was so happy ... and these just happen to be one of my favorite candies. He really made my day.

I still have over a month left until my birthday, so you could say that I'm being a little bit eager ... but oh well. I really want to treat myself to a nice birthday gift this year. Since I travel a lot, I really think that some decent travel bags/purses would be of use to me. At first I wasn't completely sure, because I didn't know where I would be attending school and whether or not I would still be flying all the time. Well now that I know, proper bags are a must. I love both of these Louis Vuitton pieces. I think they are just so classic and chic. I'm not sure which one I will go for, or if I'll be able to somehow get both for myself. I really only like their carry on pieces; I honestly don't want to have anything designer that's going to be tossed under the plane and abused half the time. But I do want some nice hard luggage cases as well for that purpose. I guess only time will tell.

Just Another Vacay Music Video

So our family likes to create music videos for random vacations, holidays etc. My sister is always in charge of putting them together and today she finished our Mexico music video! I love it :) Feel free to check it out!

The Wedding Itself ...

The whole reason we were there and most definitely the most exciting day of our trip ... WEDDING DAY ! The ceremony was beautiful, the reception was beautiful and I could not be happier for my sister. She definitely deserves all the happiness she found and all in all, it was perfect ! I was actually hired as the "makeup artist" for that day ... and it was a first for me. I'm used to only doing my own makeup and although I'm pretty good at it, I was nervous to be in charge of everyone's beauty on that occasion. Needless to say, everyone looked wonderful and pictures came out perfect THANK GOD.

The ceremony was done completely in Spanish so I didn't catch everything that was being said. It's funny because there were so many moments when I thought for sure the priest was announcing them husband and wife .. but he would just carry on for another 20 minutes afterward. Finally though, the moment everyone was waiting for ...

We left the church and headed for the reception. There weren't really any "theme colors" for this wedding. It was just a beautiful, colorful, happy garden. When it all came together, it was so enchanting and pretty. It made for the most perfect photo ops, both outside and inside.

When we made our entrance, I was finally able to get my first official photo with the newly wed couple! After a million years of begging and pleading with God, I FINALLY have an older brother and he's pretty awesome.

Everybody knows that the most exciting part about weddings, is the reception! That is when the true celebration happens. We literally danced the night away. The food and decor was amazing, there was so much tequila  ... and just an all around good time!

In conclusion, I love weddings. Someone get married and invite me so that I can do all of this all over again :)

Mexico City: Out and About

Because I was in Mexico for my sister's wedding, it wasn't necessarily a planned or structured vacation. In a way it was better, because I felt like everything was spontaneous and we were able to truly get a taste of the city.

While we weren't preparing for the wedding or partying it up at the wedding, we were relaxing by the pool, eating out and just having an amazing time. Honestly, the food was one of my favorite parts of this trip. I've always loved Mexican food, so it's no surprise that the authentic Mexican food was phenomenal to me. From the enchiladas to the flautas to the tacos, I was in heaven. Also, if you go to Mexico and don't take a few too many shots of tequila while you're there, what are you doing with your life?

One of the things that made this trip so much more enjoyable for me, is the fact that the people were so welcoming and friendly. Of course we attended a lot of family events/gathering, so it was kind to be welcomed with open arms. In addition to that though, random people we would meet throughout the week were so kind to us. This man in our sombrero photo was the absolute sweetest. He brought out the hats for us to wear and take pictures with and welcomed us to the country. He wasn't looking for money (although we forced him to accept a few pesos for his hospitality) ... he just truly wanted us to enjoy our stay and have memories to take back with us. He was a reflection of so many amazing people I met during my stay there. So so so so sweet.

Mexico City: The Pyramids

I'm finally back in Toronto after a long day of flying ... but truthfully, my heart is still in Mexico. It's so beautiful there and I never wanted to leave. I have so many photos and memories to keep and share ... I felt it was best to update in multiple posts because it would all just be too overwhelming otherwise.

Update part 1 is my trip to the pyramids in Teotihuacan. We climbed the Pyramid of the Sun, which provided a view of the entire pre-Columbian Mesoamerican city. It was a tiring climb to the top and I was so nervous that I would tumble to my death on those steep, steep steps. Alas, I did not. I made it all the way up and I was super proud of myself. The view was absolutely breathtaking and so worth the climb.

Everyone was actually making fun of me earlier because I showed up to the Pyramids in a maxi. They said I wouldn't be able to climb in my attire ... but I sure showed them!
